He served with the Utah National Guard 213th Field Artillary unit, active duty in Korea. He married Gayle Tolley in Milford and their marriage later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints and served as Branch President in the Dutch John Utah Branch, and served in the High Council and Bishoprics in the Beaver Stake. He and his wife served missions at the church employment center and at Cove Fort Utah Mission.
He was a charter member of the Daggett County Lions Club, Milford Lions club, Milford Jay Cee's. He coached little league, baseball, and was one of Milford's first EMT'S. He was instrumental in bringing drivers education into the schools and was a drivers education instructor.
He began his law enforcement career as Milford City Marshall, later appointed Chief of Police. He started his 35 year career with the Utah Highway Patrol as the first full-time law enforcement officer in Daggett County, later as patrolman in Southern Utah and retired as sargent in Wasatch County. He competed with the Utah peace officers pistol team. His expert marksmanship earned him the nickname "Dead-eye". He served actively in the Utah Peace officers Association. He was a licensed brick mason, his speciality was rock fire places.
His greatest love was spending time with his family. Together they enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing, boating, reloading bullets, he enjoyed supporting his children's and grandchildren's activities.
He is survived by his wife Gayle Tolley Gale of Midway, children; Brad (Beth) Gale of Ivins, Utah, Nancy (Cullen) Carter of Milford, Brian (Janet) Gale of South Jordan, Tara (Rodney) Hobbs of Millville, Utah, Tricia (Richie) Carlson of Midway, Utah, Tonya (Justin) Burton of Logandale, 22 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren. Brothers: Arnell (Karen) Gale of Beaver, Dough (Francis) Gale of Parowan, David (Madalyn) Gale of Cedar City, Hal (Connie) Gale of Cedar City, Lyle (Vickie) Gale of Elsinore, Utah, Steve (Kathy) Gale of Beaver, Utah, Sister Annette (Gerald) Fullmer of Washington, Utah. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Paul Gale, in-laws Pearl and Hy Tolley.
A Memorial Service will be held Thursday December 15, 2011 at 11:00 am at the Midway Stake Center, 165 North Center, Midway, Utah. A viewing will be Friday, December 16, 2011 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Southern Utah Mortuary in Milford located at 209 South 100 West. Also another viewing Saturday, December 17, 2011 at the Milford Stake Center located at 748 West 600 South in Milford, UT from 10:30 to 12:30 pm. Funeral Services will follow and be held at 1:00 pm at the Milford Stake Center. Interment will be in the Milford City Cemetery under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary.
