US Senator, New Hampshire Governor. He had a duel career as a doctor of medicine and as an ordained Presbyterian minister. He was elected to represent New Hampshire as a Democratic Republican in the United States Senate, serving from 1817 to 1823. He was then elected as Governor of Hew Hampshire, serving from 1824 to 1827. In his later years he became a newspaper editor.
