U.S. political campaign figure and activist. Wife of longtime U.S. Senator Warren G. Magnuson and one-time author. After the Senator's death in 1989 she established the Warren G. and Jermaine Magnuson Institute for Biomedical Research and Health Professions Training at the University of Washington; the Warren G. and Jermaine Magnuson Chair in Neurosciences at the UW School of Medicine; and the Warren G. and Jermaine Magnuson UW Health Sciences Scholars Endowed Program. Many credit her with the Senator's success due to her strong will and hard work on his behalf. They shared a common passion and worked together believing that the future of medicine was in biomedical research. In 1973 she published a book titled "Jermaine Magnuson's China Diary" in which she recounted her and the Senator's journey into the People's Republic of China. In more recent years she was a member of the Founder's Circle at Swedish Medical Center, and was deeply involved with the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and the Pacific Northwest Diabetes Research Institute.
