"Ernest B Kruttschnitt, the distinguished President of the Constitutional Convention of 1898, is a native born Louisianan. The City of New Orleans is entitled to the honor of being the worthy gentleman's birth place, and it is here that he has risen to great prominence among his fellow men. Mr Kruttschnitt is now in his forty-fifth year. His earliest school days were passed in private academies of New Orleans, and later his studies were finished at the Washington and Lee University. For years Mr. Kruttschnitt has figured conspicuously in affairs of the city and State. He has repeatedly been called upon to serve in positions of honor and trust, although to occupy public office has been decidedly against his wishes. He is president of the School Board of New Orleans, and chairman of the Democratic State Central Committee. When the representatives of the Democratic party assembled in baton Rouge to select its candidates for the present convention the name of Mr. Kruttschnitt was the first mentioned of those who were chosen from the state at large. That honor was subsequently added to when the convention assembled and this patriotic gentleman was unanimously agreed upon to officiate as the presiding officer of the body. By profession Mr. Kruttschnitt is an attorney, and member of the firm of Farrar, Jonas, Kruttschnitt & Gurley, of New Orleans."
