Inscription from the monument to Mrs. Brown:
By the side of those of her husband repose the mortal remains of ELIZABETH GRISHAM BROWN, wife of Joseph E. Brown and daughter of Rev. Joseph and Mary Steel Grisham. She was born in Pendleton, S.C., July 13, 1826; married in Westminster, S.C., July 13, 1847; died in Atlanta, Ga., Dec 26, 1896. In all the duties of life she was faithful and true. She was a loving daughter, a faithful wife, a devoted mother, a true friend, and a sincere Christian. "Let not your heart be troubled, ye believe in God, believe also in me."
On the same lot are buried Julius L. Brown, Franklin Pierce Brown and Charles McDonald Brown, sons of Senator and Mrs. Brown; Colonel William Steele Grisham, a brother of Mrs. Brown.

Atlanta, Ga., December 16.—Mrs. Elizabeth Brown, wife of the late ex-Governor and ex-Senator Joseph E. Brown, died this morning at her home in this city. She was seventy years old. She had just returned from a tour of Europe and the Holy Land, lasting a year and one-half, when seized with her fatal illness.
