PEORIA -- Bernard L. "Bud" Holzinger, 72, of Moline and Okeechobee, Fla., formerly of Peoria, died Friday, Feb. 20, 1998, at Palmwest Hospital in West Palm Beach, Fla.

Born April 21, 1925, in Peoria to Bernard and Gertrude Griffin Holzinger, he married Nina L. Grubb on Dec. 5, 1975, in Miami. She survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Chuck of Colona, Bob of Moline and Steve of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; two daughters, Mrs. Roger (Sandy) Jacobs of Moline and Mrs. Ed (Sherry) Boden of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two sisters, Marilyn Parrott and Rosemary Powell, both of Florida; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. One sister preceded him in death.

A World War II Navy veteran, he was a gunner's mate on the USS Colorado. He was on active duty in Tokyo Bay at the time of the Japanese surrender. He was a member of the USS Colorado Alumni Association.

He owned Budd Opticians in Colona for 30 years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of Pekin Moose Lodge.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Esterdahl Mortuary in Moline, where visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens in East Moline.
