US Senator. A member of the Republican Party, he served in the US Senate from Pennsylvania from October 1921 until his death in August 1922. He received his education from the local public schools and attended Waynesburg College in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania and then Southwestern State Normal School, from which he graduated in 1890. He then worked in newspaper publishing for three years until studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1895. He practiced law in Uniontown, Pennsylvania until his appointment as assistant district attorney in 1896, a position in which he served until his election as district attorney in 1898. Upon serving in that position for three years, he was elected to the Pennsylvania State Senate in 1907 and served until 1921. In October 1921 he resigned from the Pennsylvania State Senate upon being appointed to the US Senate to fill a vacancy created by the death of Philander Knox. The following August he died in office at the age of 52. He was the father of US Congressman William Josiah Crow.
