U.S. Congressman. During the War of 1812, he served as a Colonel in the U.S. Army and after the war, he moved to Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, where he was register and recorder of deeds, clerk of the orphans’ court and clerk of the court of quarter sessions. In 1821, he was elected as a Republican to the Seventeenth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of James Duncan, reelected as a Jackson Republican to the Eighteenth Congress and to the Nineteenth Congress, serving until 1827. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he was appointed Postmaster of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, in 1829 and held the office until his death at age 72.
