US Congressman. Born in Bostwick, Florida, he graduated from Jacksonville Law College in 1936, was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law in Jacksonville, Florida. He was a member of the City Council of Jacksonville, (1929-32) and supervisor of registration of Duval County, Florida, (1932-42). In 1943, he was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-eighth Congress and to the next two succeeding Congresses, serving until 1949. An unsuccessful candidate for re-nomination, he resumed the practice of law and real estate pursuits. He died at the age of 76 in Jacksonville, Florida.
