95th Governor of South Carolina. He served as governor from 1923 to 1927. He was born in Lynchburg, South Carolina, which is currently in Lee County, but was not when he was born there, to William J McLeod and Amanda McMillan Rogers McLeod. He attended Lynchburg Academy, and graduated from both Wofford College and the University of Virginia Law School. He was first elected to the SC House of Representatives in 1900, and became the first state senator of the newly formed Lee County in 1902. Elected Lieutenant Governor in 1906 and re-elected in 1908. He married Elizabeth Jamie Alford, daughter of William McDonald & Sarah Elizabeth McLean Alford on Dec 31, 1902.
