Arthur E. Johnson, 87, died Monday, July 29, 2011 at the Renaissance Manor on Cabot in Holyoke. Born in Springfield on April 13, 1924, he was the son of the late Ernest and Esther (Bergandahl) Johnson. Arthur was a 1942 graduate of the former Technical High School in Springfield. He then served his country as an Army veteran during WW II, and then as a Navy veteran of the Korean War. Arthur worked as a Pathology Technician for many years at the VA Medical Center in Leeds until he retired in 1979. The husband of the late Phyllis (Kisiel) Johnson, he was also predeceased by his three sisters, June, Joyce and Sylvia. He is the brother-in-law of John & Irene Cronin of Florida, and is also survived by four nephews, David, Carl, Eric and John, three nieces, Patricia, Janice and Linda as well as several great-nieces and great-nephews. The Funeral for Arthur will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 9, at 9am from the Ryder Funeral Home, 33 Lamb St., South Hadley followed by a Funeral Service in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Our Savior, S. Hadley at 10am, and burial with Military Honors in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery, S. Hadley. Calling Hours will be on Monday, Aug. 8, from 4-7pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Our Savior, 319 Granby Rd., South Hadley, MA, 01075 would be appreciated.
