U.S. Congressman. After serving in the Georgia Militia during the Creek Indian Wars in 1836, he was a clerk of the superior court of Fayette County, Georgia, (1836-40). He studied law, was admitted to the bar, practiced law in Fayetteville, Georgia and served in the Georgia State Senate, (1840-41). Moving to Alabama, in 1844, he was a member of the Alabama House of Representatives, (1849, 60), served in the Alabama State Senate in 1860 and judge of probate for Randolph County, (1865-66). In 1869, he was elected as a Republican to the Forty-first Congress, serving until 1871. After leaving Congress, he with other gold speculators, invested in the search for gold in east Alabama, with little results.
