U.S. Congressman. Moving with his parents to California in 1853, he later studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1864 and commenced to practice law in Santa Rosa, California. He was a member of the California State Assembly, (1869-70) and district attorney of Sonoma County, (1875-76). In 1883, he was elected as a Democrat to the Forty-eighth and Forty-ninth Congresses, serving until 1887. After leaving Congress, he continued the practice of law until his death.
