Maria F.(Paardekam) Clowes, 89, of Springfield passed away Friday surrounded by her loving family at the Jewish Nursing Home, Longmeadow. Maria was born in Belgium on July 12,1922, a daughter of the late Constant and Sylvie (Jacobs) Paardekam . She came to the United States in 1946 and has been a longtime Springfield resident. She previously worked as a seamstress in the garment industry. Maria will be remembered as a strong willed and a loving and devoted mother. She enjoyed sewing and most of all her family and had made several trips back to her native Belgium. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Douglas A. Clowes and her brother Frans Paardekam. Maria is survived by her son Douglas A. Clowes, Jr., of Springfield, her daughters, Carol S. Higgins and her husband William of New Port Richey,FL and Joan M.Clowes of Springfield, her sister Alphonsine Nolmans of Belgium, 2 grandchildren, Donna Bourget of Springfield and William Higgins, Jr,of Warwick, RI and 4 great grandchildren, Allison, Gregory, Sydney, and Alexandra. Visiting hours for Maria are Tuesday, July 19, 2011 from 4-7PM at Sampson's Chapel of the Acres Funeral Home, 21 Tinkham Rd, Springfield. Funeral services are Wednesday, July 20, 2011 from Sampson's Chapel of The Acres Funeral Home at 8:30Am followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10AM at St.Catherine of Siena Church, 1023 Parker St, Springfield, concluding with Interment and Rites of Committal at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 421 Tinkham Rd. Springfield.
