Nebraska Governor. After graduating from the University of South Dakota, in 1912, he taught in high schools, in South Dakota. Returning to Nebraska, he worked in the farming and ranching industries in Hartington. He was a member of the Nebraska Unicameral Legislature, (1945-57) and also served as the Lieutenant Governor of Nebraska, (1957-60). In 1960, after Governor Ralph G. Brooks died in office, he was appointed as a Republican the 31st Governor of Nebraska, serving until 1961. After leaving office, he returned to position of Lieutenant Governor, until 1965.
