U.S. Senator. He graduated from St. Aloysius College, in 1909, from the law department of Tulane University, in 1913, was admitted to the bar and proceeded to practice law in Houma, Louisiana. He was Houma City Attorney, (1913-15) and District Attorney of Terrebonne Parish, (1915-16). During World War I. he served as a Sergeant in the Artillery Corps, United States Army, (1917-18). After the war, he was a delegate to the constitutional convention of Louisiana, in 1921 and was a member of the Louisiana State House of Representatives, (1924-36). In 1936, he was elected as a Democrat to the United States Senate, serving until his death while in office at age 81.
