US Senator. Graduating from Yale College in 1794, studied law, was admitted to the bar, practiced law in Sunbury, Georgia and held several local political offices. In 1819, he was elected as a Democratic Republican to the United States Senate, serving until 1825. After his term, he retired to his estate until his death age 53.
