Also served as United States District Attorney for Illinois from 1827 to 1829, Circuit Judge from 1835 to 1841, and 1855 to 1857, Justice of Illinois State Supreme Court from 1841 to 1843, and 1857 to his death in 1878, Member of the Illinois State House of Representatives from 1851 to 1852, and Speaker of the Illinois House of Representatives in 1851.
