U.S. Congressman. He attended Bridgton Academy, taught school and graduated from Bowdoin College, in 1900. He was superintendent of the South Portland and Cape Elizabeth schools, (1901-25), city clerk of South Portland, Maine, in 1913, plus engaged in the real estate and farming business. He was Mayor of South Portland, (1933-34) and elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-fourth Congress, serving (1935-37). An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed the real estate business and farming until his death at age 72.
