Death Claims Eulalee Pulliam Monday, May 24
Death at 4:00 Monday afternoon May 24, claimed Miss Eulalee Pulliam at a local hospital, where she succumbed following a lingering illness which had steadily consumed her strength for the past several weeks.
Known to have been ill for the past year, news of her death comes as no shock to her numerous friends in Durango and southwestern Colorado, but it causes deep regret, for Eulalee Pulliam was widely known and respected.
The daughter of the late Judge and Mrs. James A Pulliam, Eulalee was born in Sterling, Colorado, and came to Rico at an early age with her parents. In 1905 the family moved to Durango, and for the past 38 years had made their home here continuously.
Eulalee attended Durango schools and was a graduate of Durango High School. She obtained her degree from Colorado Teacher's College at Greeley, and later earned a degree in law from Cumberland University, Lebanon, Tennessee.
Active in business and civic affairs, Eulalee Pulliam served the Durango Business and Professional Women's club for several years and was one of those responsible for the success of the Community Club, which flourished here for some time. Ever ready and willing to help, to give freely of her services and time, she was always eager to share in any local or community project and to work hard for its completion and success.
Prior to engaging in business for herself, she was for some time an employee of the Western Colorado Power company. For the past year and a half she had been making her home in Denver, only comparatively recently returning to Durango, when illness forced her to enter the hospital.
Surviving the deceased are her sister, Mrs. C. S. Dudley and one niece, Miss Jean Dudley, both of Durango.
Private funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 Thursday morning, May 27, from the chapel of the Hood Mortuary, the Rev Fr Smith of the Farmington Episcopal church, of which denomination the deceased was a life-long member, officiating.
Remains will lie in state at the Hood Morturay from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. and from 4:00 until 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 26. Friends who wish to pay their respects are invited to call on at the mortuary during those hours as funeral services Thursday will be private.
Internment will be made in the family plot at Greenmount cemetery.
