Feb 2, 1919 - Mar 27, 2015 Orville Donald Wenzel, Sr., better known as "Andy," a lifetime resident of South Baldwin County passed away on March 27, 2015 at the age of 96. He was born on February 2, 1919, to the late Joseph "Ed" and Hela Donaldson Wenzel, and was one of five children. After serving in the U. S. Navy for three years during World War II and returning to his home in Baldwin County, he married the former Hazel Callaway. They had three children: Donnie Wenzel, Becky Paul, and Diana Britain. He was a proud grandfather to six grandchildren: Jamie (Teri) Paul, Tim (April) Paul, Kris (Mark) Stejskal, Drew (Deepti) Wenzel, Leigh Anne Wenzel, and Eric Britain. He was also proud of his ten great-grandchildren: Chloe, Lexi, Hunter, Zachary, and Jacob Paul, Blaine, Sarah Claire, and Anna Britten Stejskal, and Ava and Elise Wenzel. Andy worked as a building contractor and enjoyed hunting, fishing, Alabama football, and spending time with his family and friends. He also served on the Foley City council for four years, and volunteered for many years in Foley's community and high school sports' programs. In 2002, Andy was inducted into the Foley High School Athletic Hall of Fame. In addition to being an active member of Foley First Baptist Church, Andy was a member of Elberta VFW Post 5658 and American Legion Post 99 in Foley. As a WWII veteran, he participated in the South Alabama Honor Flight in 2010. Funeral services for Mr. Wenzel will be held Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at Foley First Baptist Church starting at 2pm, there will be a time for visitation with the Wenzel family two hours prior to the funeral service. Burial will immediately follow the service in Pine Rest Memorial Park. The family suggests that memorials be made to Foley First Baptist Church Bus Fund PO Box 307 Foley, AL 36536.
