US Senator. He was elected as a Democratic Senator from New Jersey to the United States Senate to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Arthur Harry Moore, who had been elected Governor. He finished out the rest of Moore's term, serving from January 18, 1938, to November 8, 1938, when newly-elected Senator William Warren Barbour assumed the seat.
