US Congressman. He graduated from Western Kentucky State College in 1934 and from the University of Tennessee with a medical degree in 1937. He volunteered for the US Army during the World War II and served as a combat Captain medic in the 38th Infantry Division. After the war, he returned to practice medicine in Tompkinsville, Kentucky, (1940-64). In 1965, he was elected as a Republican to the Eighty-ninth Congress and to the next seven succeeding Congresses, serving until 1981. Not a candidate for reelection, he remained active local, state and national politics until his death at age 86.
