US Congressman, 18th Minnesota Governor. Elected to represent Minnesota in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1907 to 1914. Served as Governor of Minnesota from January 5, 1915 to his death in office on December 30, 1915, when he died as the result of a stroke. He was Minnesota's only bachelor governor. He was the second of three Minnesota Governors to die in office (the others being John A. Johnson, who died 1909, and Floyd B. Olson, who died in 1936).
