Death of Mrs. E. J. Lane. (Eliza Jane)

Mrs. E. J. Lane died at her residence on East Ash street, between Eleventh and Twelfth, yesterday morning, of heart trouble. Deceased was one of the best-known women in the country, having resided on the East Side for 24 years. She was the widow of Captain Nat Lane, a brother of General Joseph Lane, first governor of Oregon. Three children and a large number of relatives survive her, living in this city and other portions of the state. Her surviving children are Dr. Harry Lane, formerly superintendent of the insane asylum; Captain Nat H. Lane and Mrs. Jennie Bailey. Mrs. Lane was a little over 60 years of age. For some time she was at the residence of her son Harry, near Kenilworth, but leaving her health improved she moved back to her own home a short time ago, where her malady proved fatal. She leaves considerable property. Her marriage took place at Oregon City, and her maiden name was Fleming.
