US Congressman, US Senator. He was elected as a Democrat to represent Arkansas' 2nd Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1931 until 1937, when he resigned his seat, having been elected to the United States Senate. He then represented Arkansas as a Democrat in the Senate from 1937 until his resignation in 1941. He then served as a Judge of the United States District Court for the Western District of Arkansas from 1941 until 1967.
