Walter (correctly Walther)Friedrich Schellenberg was born in Saarbrucken Germany and moved with his family to Luxemberg after the First World War.
Education - he attended the University of Marburg and then in 1929 the University of Bonn. He initially studied medicine and wanted to be a doctor, but switched to law.
Schellenberg graduated in 1933 and joined the SS - here he met Reinhard Heydrick who sent him to work in the Counter Intelligence Department - Sicherheitsdienst(SD) from 1939 - 1942 he was Himmler's personal aide.
Throughout the war Schellenberg played a key role in many counter intelligence activities and clandestine operations.
At Nuremberg - sentenced to 6 years imprisonment, but was released in 1951 on the grounds of ill heath.
Walter Schellenberg died in Turin Italy in March 1952.
Cause of Death: Cancer.
