Kansas Governor. He graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1859 and was a Methodist minister for various churches in Ohio. During the Civil War, he served as a Sergeant Major 153rd Infantry, Union Army, until a serious lung illness forced him to leave the service in 1864. Moving to Manhattan, Kansas, he served as a minister and was elected Lieutenant Governor of Kansas, in 1866. When Governor Samuel Crawford resigned, Green was elected as a Republican the fourth Governor of Kansas, serving (1868-69). After leaving office, he returned to the ministry and served in the Kansas House of Representatives, (1880-82). He died at age 52 from lingering complications from his Civil War illness.
