HOWARD J. STIER, 72 - RETIRED AS ENGINEER WITH CROUSE-HINDS

Services for Howard J. Stier, 72, of Camilllus, who died Friday in Plattsburgh, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Buranich Funeral Home and 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
Mr. Stier was employed with Crouse-Hinds for 47 years and retired in 1982. He started out in the paint shop, then moved to the foundry and took correspondence courses to become an electrical engineer.
Mr. Stier joined the Army National Guard in the 1930s.
An equestrian, he was an original member of the Cavalry Club. Mr. Stier was skilled in trick riding and participated in the annual horse shows of Troop K in the late 1930s.
Mr. Stier was an Army infantry veteran and served in the European Theater during World War ll. He was in the Battle of the Bulge and was decorated with a Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
Mr. Stier was a life resident of the Syracuse area. He lived in Camillus 30 years.
He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church and a former member of its Holy Name Society.
Surving are his wife, the former Helen (Private); a son, Paul of Syracuse; two daughters, Mary Guyder of Syracuse and Patricia MacKinder of Camillus; two sisters, Julia Brooks of Syracuse and Grace Howell of Florida; two grandsons, David and Evan Stier; and several nieces and nephews.
