Wife of General Joseph Montfort Street, daughter of General Thomas & Mary Posey. After General Streets death in 1840, his son-in-law, Major John Beach succeccded him in the week long council that resulted in the signing of the Oct 11, 1842 Treaty for the purchase of much of Iowa from the Sac and Fox Indians. Since all the Indians were to be removed from the area before May 1843, and the agency would no longer be needed for that purpose, the Indians stipulated in the 1842 Treaty that the land and dwellings plus 640 acres surrounding the agency be turned over to Mrs. Eliza Street. The Indians agreed to pay for that land in the Treaty.
