we are again called upon to record the death of an old settler of springfield and sangamon county.mrs sarah saunders,wife of catain j.r. saunders and mother of our well known fellow citizen, a.h. saunders,departed this life yesterday morning in the 82d year of her age.her death was not unexpected,as for the last month,though old age andits attending ills, she had been gradually failing until yesterday,surrounded by loving relatives,she calmly and peacefully fell asleep.she was born jan. 16,1801 in kentucky.on dec.18,1823 she married j.r. saunders who survived her and whom she lived as a loving wife for 59 years,coming to springfield nov. 18,1824 and residing in this city at the time of her decease.she was one of those pioneer settlers whose lot it was to begin their career of active life in the wilderness of sangamon county and to lay the foundation for that civilization which today permates and adorns the rich and prosperous country of central illinois.she had for many years been a faithful,loving and devoted member of the christian church in the city.the funeral will take place this afternoon at 3 o'clock from the family residence,corner of sixth and carpenter streets.friends of the family invited to attend.
