Richard Earl ANDERSON, 20, Rt. 1, Rochester, died at 6:37 p.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Hospital, Fort Wayne, from burns received on Nov. 1.
He suffered the burns at the Indiana State Prison in Michigan City, where he was serving a six-year term for robbery.
Prison officials said a fire was set in Anderson's cell, and that inmate Johnny HILL, 41, sentenced from Marion County, has been charged with attempted homicide in connection with the fire.
Officials said that investigation is continuing in light of the death. An autopsy was scheduled by the Allen County coroner's office for this afternoon.
Mr. Anderson was born Sept. 8, 1969 in Rockford, Ill., to Bruce and Christie HOEL ANDERSON, Rochester, who survive. He had lived here 3 1/2 years, moving from Plymouth, Mich. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.
Surviving with the parents are two sisters, Mrs. Erik (Michele) SILLANPAA, Westland, Mich., and Carl ANDERSON, Northville, Mich.; a brother, Kevin [ANDERSON], with the U.S. Navy in the Philippines; the maternal grandparents, Layton and Marie HOEL, Rockford, Ill.; the paternal grandparents, Earl and June ANDERSON, Rockford, Ill., and nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Foster & Good Funeral Home, Rochester, with the Rev. Jack HARTMAN officiating. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Rochester. Friends may call after noon Sunday. Memorials may be made in his name to the Save the Park Fund, for playground equipment, in care of First Bank of Rochester.
