Charles Gavin Ellis, Jr. age 73 of Elba, AL departed this life Monday, August 9, 2010 at his home in Elba, AL. Graveside services will be held at Evergreen Cemetery of Elba on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at 3:00 PM with Rev. Mart Gray officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery Elba, AL. Visitation will be at Hayes Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Evergreen Perpetual Care Cemetery Fund, 200 Buford Street, Elba, AL 36323 or First Baptist Church of Elba, P. O. 507, Elba, AL 36323. Charles graduated from Elba High School in 1954 and the University of Alabama in 1958. He was active in the Elba Jaycees, the Alabama Jaycees and the National Jaycees. He was also active in the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of America. Charles was a life long member of the First Baptist Church of Elba where he served as deacon and leader of RA boys. He was a member of the Elba Chamber of Commerce and served as City Councilman. He was a member of the Alabama National Guard for 41 years rising to the rank of WO4. He worked at Dorsey Trailers for 39 years. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruby Folsom Austin; his father, Charles Gavin Ellis, Sr.; and his sister, Cornelia Wallace.
