According to his obituary in The Washington Post he was buried in Arlington National Cemetery. He was married to Tessa Lusk at the time of his death. He was the father of Rufus S. Lusk Jr. and John S. Lusk. He was the brother of the Honorable Hall S. Lusk of Salem, Oregon, former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Oregon and a United States Senator. He was the founder and President of Rufus S. Lusk and Son Inc., one of the largest real estate publishing firms in the country. He graduated from Georgetown Prep in 1913 and Georgetown University in 1917. He served as a Captain with the 320th Infantry, 80th Division, American Expeditionary Force during World War I and saw action at St. Mihiel and Argonne. He was awarded the Purple Heart
