He was born January 8, 1922, in Ilion, New York, to Siebolt and Wilma (Namminga) Venema. He married Florence Alice Cox December 21, 1947 at First Presbyterian Church, Baldwinsville, NY, and she survives.
Survivors also include two daughters, Faith Showers, of Palmyra , PA, and Ruth Gundersen, of Colchester, VT; and two sons, Scott (Kathryn), of Tiffin, OH, and Todd, of Hammondsport, NY; 5 grandchildren, Jacob Showers, Rachel Searfass, Ellen, Paul and Grant Venema.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Benard Venema.
Bill was a graduate of Ilion (NY) High School. He attended Oswego State Teacher's College and graduated from Syracuse University in 1950.
Bill was a veteran of World War II. He worked as a credit manager for Carrier Corporation, Cherry-Burrell Corporation and the Wilber B. Driver Company; was a talented designer and woodworker who built and repaired homes and furniture; and served as the treasurer and a board member for a number of civic and church organizations.
A memorial service will begin at 3:30 PM on Saturday, June 8, 2013, at the First Presbyterian Church, Bath, NY. Bond-Davis Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Burial will follow at a later date at Riverview Cemetery, Baldwinsville, NY.
Memorial contributions may be made to the church restoration fund at First Presbyterian Church, 6 East Morris Street, Bath, NY 14810, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
