James Gill 'Red' Sanders

Funeral for James Gill "Red" Sanders, 77, of Decatur will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Fairview Baptist Church with the Rev. Walt Schmidt, the Rev. Covell Keenum and the Rev. Michael Free officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery with Shelton Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Sanders died Thursday, October 8, 1998, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born October 29, 1920, in Morgan County to James Elbert Sanders and Agnes Sparkman Sanders. He was a salesman at Shumake Furniture for more than 50 years and a member of Point Mallard Golf Club. He was involved in the Morgan County Sports Hall of Fame and was a member of Gideons International. He was a former Sunday school superintendent, a former director of the junior choir and a former deacon of Fairview Baptist Church. He was also a U.S. Air Force veteran, who served in England during World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Lamon Sanders; two daughters, Pat Free of Decatur and Ann Heath of Dayton, Ohio; one brother, Robert D. Sanders of Huntsville; one sister, Sue Sinyard of Harvest; four grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Horace Pentecost, Bill Terry, Jim Sparks, J.W. Dewberry, DeWayne Wells, Jack Allen, Herman Segars and LeRoy Evans.

Deacons from Fairview Baptist Church will be honorary pallbearers.
