Hannah was a daughter of Thomas Payne. She married Abel Wilder, the youngest of eleven children born to Daniel Wilder and Mary Gould. Their wedding took place in 1808 in Eastham (Barnstable County), Massachusetts. Abel was a well known carpenter and also a farmer. Shortly after their marriage, Abel took his new bride to a farm he had bought near Milton (Chittenden County), Vermont. They had five children born in Vermont. During the summer of 1816 Abel took his family to a larger farm he had bought just two miles outside of the town of Malone in Franklin County, New York. Abel built the family a home and much of the furniture inside. Five more children were born in the farmhouse in New York; for a total of ten children born to Abel and Hannah.
