Leonard was born April 24, 1912 in Moline to Anselm and Sadie(Anderson)Holmgren. He married Mary E. Schutte June 19, 1935 in Moline, IL. He retired in 1971 as a set up man after 33 years at the former John Deere Plow/Planter, Moline. He was a member of Moline Gospel Temple. He enjoyed fishing and baseball. Survivors include a daughter Louann Furst, Illinois City; a son William, Taylor Ridge; grandchildren Bill Minard, Kirk Minard, Scott Minard, Stephen Holmgren (deceased 1990) and Kim Holmgren VanKirk; great grandchildren Emily Minard Spencer, Adam Minard, Shawn Minard, Colin Minard, Conner Minard. He is preceded in death by sisters Anna and Olga and a brother Edwin.
