Louie Irene "Louene" Dance Long

SHREVEPORT, LA - Mrs. Palmer R. Long was born on November 2, 1924 in Shreveport, LA and passed away on Friday, January 22, 2010. Services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 25, 2010, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church with The Reverend Guido Verbeck officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 24, 2010 at Osborn Funeral Home.

Louene was preceded in death by her loving parents, Col. Claude A. and Maude Whatley Dance, Sr. owners of Dance's Fine Flowers. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Palmer R. Long; daughter and son, Laura Louene Lubin and Palmer R. Long, Jr. and wife Linda; sister, Rubye Dance Dehan; four grandchildren, Palmer R. Long, III, Elisabeth Louene Long, Leah L. Geier and Barbara Lubin Cottrell; four great-grandchildren, Clara Rose Cottrell, Alea Elise Long, Tas Evan Long and Gary Gene Geier, III; and many nieces and nephews. She was deeply loved and cherished by her husband and family.

Louene attended Stephens College and was a graduate of Centenary College. She was an avid bridge player, loved to play golf and participated in outdoor activities including hunting and fishing. One of her most favorite activities was family get-togethers at the families Lazy D Ranch in Grand Cane, LA. Louene was a renowned great cook, known especially for her favorite dish "Oysters Rockefeller".

Louene cherished her dear friendships with fellow "Birthday Club" members, a group that has been meeting since high school. Louene had a lifelong love of the arts, which started at Dance's Fine Flowers and included sculpting, painting, Irish Folk Dancing and Yanni. She was a member of many social groups and organizations.

Pallbearers will be Bud Gahagan, John M. Shuey, Jr., Palmer R. Long, III, Frank Palms Book, and Joshua Cottrell.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Christus Schumpert Pulmonary Rehab Group.
