Her adult life was spent involved in the family farm in the Sargent community. She was also involved in health care and as a local reporter for various papers. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother, a 4-H sewing leader, and was an excellent seamstress. Velma loved gardening and raising Iris for friends. Bob and Velma traveled extensively in their later years, to Hawaii, New Zealand, Australia, and several South American countries. They spent many winters around Parker Arizona. Velma enjoyed walking and could be seen walking along the north gun barrel on many mornings. Velma will be dearly missed by family and friends.
Velma is survived by her children John (Helena) Haws of Monte Vista, Janice Cunningham of Grand Junction, Larry (Kerry Hamilton) of Asotin, Wash; grandchildren Skip (Jenna Ford) Haws, Zachary Haws and Sunshine Haws, Ingrid (Brad) Watson, and a step great-grand-daughter Kiley Robertson-Watson and another great gread-daughter due in February. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and one brother Dwight.
Funeral mass will be held at 1 p.m. Fri., Dec. 18, 2009 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monte Vista. Internment will follow services at the Monte Vista cemetery. A recitation of the rosary will be held at 7 p.m. on Thur., Dec. 17, 2009 at the Rogers Family Mortuary in Monte Vista. In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association in care of the Rogers Family Mortuary office in Monte Vista.
