Wesley is believed to be a direct descendant of Nathaniel Jones (1749-1815) of "White Plains" plantation in what is today Cary, Wake County, who was a contemporary Col. John Hinton and father-in-law of Joel Lane Jr., son of Raleigh founder Joel Lane. On his mother's side, he was the paternal grandson of Lethan Norwood & Elizabeth Baker of Franklin County, and later Wake County, NC.
Wesley married Sallie Bailey, daughter of Dr. Christopher Thomas Bailey & Anne Sarah Bailey of Virginia, he being the editor of the Biblical Recorder in Raleigh.
The couple settled in Raleigh where they would become parents to 3 known children: Annie Bailey Jones (1888-1960), Sallie Wesley Jones (c. 1891), and William Bailey Jones (1892-1932).
Wesley was a well-known attorney in Raleigh in partnership with his brother-in-law, Josiah W. Bailey, a noted Baptist layman, Raleigh attorney, and future United States Senator. Both Wesley and his wife Sallie were active in the First Baptist Church in Raleigh, he serving as a deacon and she being chosen among the first deaconesses at FBC. Sallie was also the first Recording Secretary for the Woman's Missionary Union of North Carolina. The Dance & Theatre Auditorium at Meredith College was named in honor Wesley Norwood Jones and Sallie Bailey Jones, former trustees.
Wesley Norwood Jones died in 1928 at age 76. His wife survived him 15 years, passing in 1943 at age 75.
