Franklin D. Orton, 76, died Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at the Colorado State Veterans Center. Franklin was born November 3, 1932 in Antonito, Colorado to Warren and Ilene [Christensen] Orton.

Franklin married Barbara Olson. Franklin served in the United States Navy. Franklin was involved in farming and ranching and worked for over thirty years in the fertilizer business. Franklin belonged to the Elks and the San Suzie Dance Club. Franklin loved bowling, dancing, the outdoors, hunting, and fishing. Spending time with family was very important to Franklin.

His parents and wife, Barbara, preceded Franklin in death. Franklin's survivors include children, Jolene [Jim] Hazard of Hooper and Lorna [Ivey] Bridgers of Florida, brother Eugene Orton of Denver, sister Mae [Gordon] Dady of Lakewood, two grandchildren, one great grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family chose cremation. A memorial service to honor and celebrate Franklin's life will be held Saturday, September 19, 2009 at 2 pm at the First Baptist Church in Center, Colorado. Inurnment will be at the Monte Vista Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Colorado State Veterans Center in care of Strohmayer's Funeral Home 2067 W. Hwy 160, Monte Vista, Colorado 81144. Arrangements made under the direction of Strohmayer's Funeral Home.
