From Merry Anne Pierson 2/07/2005. Dr. Clement Pearson (19 Dec 1819 - 29 Jan 1886), was the son of Samuel and Sarah Golden Pearson. He was born in Mercer Co., now Lawrence Co., PA. Clement studied medicine and became one of the first physicians in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence Co. PA. Clement was a Homeopathic physician. He was among the founding members of the International Hahnemannian Association, which formerd in June 1880. . .
Clement married Eleanor McKinley Rose, daughter of James Rose (1785-1865) and Martha McKinley (1785-1872) who married about 1806 in Mercer Co., PA. Martha McKinley was the daughter of David McKinley (1755-1840) and his wife Sarah Grey****. Martha's brother, James Stevenson McKinley (1783-1897****) married Mary 'Polly' Rose, daughter of Andrew Rose and Hannah Chapman. James and Polly were parents of William McKinley (1807-1892). This William McKInley married Nancy Campbell Allison (1809-1897), who was born in New LIsbon, Columbiana Co., OH. William and Nancy C. Allison McKinley were the parents of President William McKinley, born 1842 in Ohio. David McKinley, father of Martha and James Stevenson McKinley, was a member of the Flying Camp of Pennsylvania serving in the Revolutionary War.

The Bio. of William McKinley by H. Wayne Morgan states Andrew Rose, Jr. was Wm McKinley's great-grandfather, and that Mary (Polly) Rose, had ancestors that emigrated with Wm Penn to the New World.
There is a conflict on the parents of Polly's grandparents. I chose to go with FTM's group sheets. So is Andrew the Son of John or the son of Jacob? Was Mary (Polly) Rose really born in New Jersey? or Doylestown, Bucks Co., PA., it's only about 8 miles and across the river from New Jersey. pmm

At the time of his marriage in 1806, James and Polly resided on a farm in Pine Township, Mercer County, Pennsylvania. When serving in the War of 1812, he fought in the Battle of Tippecanoe under General William Henry Harrison. James was favorably impressed with that area, and decided to move there. When he came to Crawford County, he was accompanied by his son, Ephraim, and they were both carpenters, building a number of buildings in Bucyrus, Holmes, Lykins and Charfield townships. When James moved to his farm in Chatfield, all his sons accompanied him, excepting William, the father of the president. There was also with him his father, David McKinley, and his mother-in-law, Hannah C. Rose.
(From The South Bend Daily Tribune...no date or page given, but sometime between November 1896, to March 1897.)..."They came to St. Joseph county many years ago from the east, settling first about two miles east of Mishawaka near the bank fo the St. Joseph river. They lived there some three or four months, and then moved about seven miles west of the city on a farm a short distance off the Crumstown road. Here James erected a two-story frame house which, like all houses of that period, had a large fireplace. Just before the family moved, James fell off the roof and sustained an injury to one of his wrists. After moving to this farm, the family resided there about eight months, when Polly was taken ill with something akin to malaria, and about two weeks after she came down, James became ill, suffering for eight days, three hours and 15 minutes. James and Polly both died on the same day - their 43rd wedding anniversary.
The children at first thought of placing the remains in a cemetery in the vicinity of their farm, but upon due consideration, decided that it would be better to have a lot in South Bend, where the graves could be looked after. Accordingly, they purchased a lot on the south side of the Laporte Avenue entrance of the city cemetery, and there the good husband and wife are buried, two caskets, but only one vault." James' son, William, cared for the burial site, and replaced the old decayed grave stones with a handsome monument.
Early in the thirties James became interested in the iron business, and was manager of a charcoal furnace for a number of years at Lisbon, Ohio. He was an elder in the Lisbon Presbyterian Church from 1822 to 1836 during the pastorate of Dr. Vallandigham. His eldest son was William 1, father of President William McKinley.
