His obituary in the Warsaw Bulletin (19 Feb 1892) says he studied law with his brother, the late Hon. Lot Morrill, and came to Nauvoo in 1845. He was an associate justice of the county court from 1848 to 1852; a delegate to the constitutional convention of 1862; a member of the twenty-third, twenty-fourth, and twenty-seventh (Illinois) general assemblies; supervisor from Nauvoo in 1865; was five times mayor of Nauvoo, and at the time of his death was filling the office of City Attorney.
