Frances Helena (Wofford) Panter, the daughter of Thomas Wofford and Ruth (Floyd) Wofford, was born November 21, 1920, in Hanson, Oklahoma. On September 19, 2009, she passed from this life at Sequoyah Memorial Hospital in Sallisaw, Oklahoma at the age of 88 years, 9 months and 28 days. After high school Frances graduated from Draughons School of Business and worked as a secretary for several businesses including Holt Telephone Company. Frances married Roy Panter and their union was blessed with three children, Jerry, Thomas and Suzanne. She was a member of the Stoney Point Extension Club and an accomplished seamstress, receiving many awards at the Adair County Fair. She enjoyed her flower garden and was the leader of the senior citizens musical group, "Panhandlers". She was an active member of the First Christian Church and her Sunday School class. Her parents, Thomas and Ruth Wofford, her husband, Roy Panter, son, Jerry Panter and brother, Bill Wofford all preceded her in death. Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Tom Panter and wife, Martha, of Ft. Gibson, her daughter, Suzanne Holland and husband, Jack, of Mountain Grove, MO; daughter-in-law, Virginia Panter, of Okmulgee; brothers, Dewey and Frances Wofford, of St. Louis, MO, Jack and Terri Wofford, of Sallisaw, Carney and JoAnn Wofford, of Tulsa; sisters, Phyllis Hill, of Vian and Camilla Matthews, of Spiro and sister-in-law, Jerrye Wofford, of Napa Valley, CA. Other survivors include her grandchildren, David Panter, Mary Hardin, John Panter, Kyle Panter, Dana Nippes, Kelly Panter, Brian Panter, Alan Holland and Kim Holland; great grandchildren, Paige Panter, Blake Hardin, Katie Hardin, Jenna Panter, Collin Panter, Sydney Panter, Luke Panter and Kari Panter. Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 23, 2009, at the First Christian Church in Stilwell with Kevin Spurlock and Rev. David Kelley officiating. Interment will follow at Stilwell City Cemetery under the direction of Hart Funeral Home of Stilwell.
