Gertrude Haywood was born 1848 in Raleigh, Wake County, NC the 7th of 9 known surviving children (3 boys/6 girls) born to the Hon. William Henry Haywood III and his wife, Jane Graham. She was twin to her sister, Margaret Nelson Haywood.
She was the paternal grandchild of William Henry Haywood II & Ann Sheppard of Raleigh; and gr-grandchild of William Henry Haywood I & Charity Hare of Edgecombe Co, NC. She was the maternal grandchild of Edward Graham of New Bern, Craven Co, NC.
Gertrude was just 4 years old when her father died in 1852. She weathered the Civil War remaining in Raleigh with her widowed mother who would be left grieving after the loss of 2 of her 3 sons in the war.
Gertrude married into the prominent Trapier family of Charleston & Georgetown, South Carolina, marrying two of the sons of Rev. Richard Shubrick Trapier & Windham/Wyndham Theodosia. She married (1st)on 4 Sep 1879 to William Shubrick Trapier (1850-1879) who died just about 2 months into the marriage. She then married his older brother, Edward Shubrick Trapier (1840-1909) in 1881, and by him would have four (4) daugthers:

Wyndham reportedly died in St. Simons Island, GA in 1967, but her burial place has not been located by this researcher. Margaret Trapier married Allen Gray Rogers, Sr. (1859-1932) and after his death removed to Brunswick, Glynn Co, GA where she died in 1966. Jennie Graham Trapier was a school teacher and never married; removing to Menlo Park, San Mateo Co, CA, where she died in 1975. Youngest daughter, Elizabeth Trapier, married Floyd Stephen Mott (1884-1951) in 1911, and divorced by 1940; then joined her sister in Menlo Park, CA where she died in 1979.
