LEWIS, GLADYS D. (WASHINGTON), 98, died on July 17, 2009 surrounded by her three loving daughters.

Born in Pawtucket, she was the oldest child of the late Charles and Georgiana (Fisher) Washington. She was employed by the State of Rhode Island as a Psychiatric Aide at the RI Medical Center for many years. She was a faithful member of The Olney Street Baptist Church until her illness 9 years ago. Gladys 'Mother of Many' was an Elder and the oldest member of the Seaconke Wampanoag Tribe. She was a member of the St. Martin de Porres Senior Center and was active in the line dancing group and the acting group where she appeared in several plays. She is survived by three daughters, Edith E. Baptista her husband Walter, Marlene A. Lewis, and Gladys D. Edmonds, 10 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 13 great, great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Her funeral will be held Wednesday at 10 am from the Olney Street Baptist Church, 100 Olney Street. Calling hour: 9-10 am in the church. www.bellfuneralhome.net.
