PIONEER MOTHER IS LAID AT REST
Friends Fill Church For Mrs. Sandstedt's Funeral Saturday

In final tribute to a pioneer mother, a large crowd of friends gathered with relatives of Mrs. Ida Sandstedt, for her funeral services at the First Methodist Church, Saturday afternoon.

Besides the large congregation, many gifts of flowers showed the great esteem in which she was held. Rev. J. E. Borgman, pastor of the Swedish Methodist church of which she had been a member, conducted the services and Dr. Paul L. Philipp, pastor of the First Methodist church preached the funeral sermon using as his text Daniel 12:13 "But go thou thy way till the end be, for thou shalt rest, and stand in thy lot at the end of the days." Music was furnished by a quartet, Mrs. Wm. Ebers, Mrs. B. O. Lyle, Arthur Swanson and Claude Magill, and Rev. and Mrs. J. E. Borgman sang a duet.

Mrs. Sandstedt passed away just after midnight, the morning of April 19. She had been in poor health for some years and when she became worse a few days before her death she was taken to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Conrad Johnson where she received the affectionate and tender care she needed.

Mrs. Ida Sandstedt, was born in Småland, Sweden, April 24 [21], 1852. In 1868 [1869] she arrived in this country and settled in Galva, Illinois. In 1874 [1871] she was united in marriage to Alfred Sandstedt, who passed away in 1924. Seven children were born in this home, five boys and two girls, of which one girl preceded her parents to their heavenly home in 1914.

In 1871, Mr. and Mrs. Sandstedt moved to Nebraska, and became two of the early pioneers who settled the state, and here they lived for 63 years. Both Mr. and Mrs. Sandstedt, early in life were gloriously converted and found in Jesus Christ, their Saviour and friend, whom they loved devotedly and served faithfully throughout their lives. Their home was an ideal Christian home of love, peace and hospitality and many are they who here found a place of rest and shelter.

In 1880, they joined the Swedish Methodist church, first at Prairie, Nebraska, where they became two of the charter members, and afterwards here at Holdrege where Mrs. Sandstedt has lived for the past fourteen years.

Left to mourn her departure are the six children, Mrs. Hilma Johnson and Will Sandstedt at Holdrege; Albert, Charles, Carl and Reuben of Sterling, Colorado; 22 grandchildren; a brother, Charles Johnson of Harcourt, Iowa, and a host of friends.
