Bio.: James McConnell was born to James and Jennie McConnell in Ireland. In 1837 he moved from New York City to Michigan, where he purchased land from the General Land Office and farmed.

One child, James A., was born in New York State, while his other two known children, William John and Richard Davis, were born in Michigan.

The Portland Observer, Wednesday, August 11, 1880 Died at the resident of his son, R. D. McConnell, James McConnell, at the advanced age of 86 years. The deceased was born in Stranorlar Co., Donegal, Ireland, where he early united with the Presbyterian church of which denomination he was a strong adherent at the time of his death. He emigrated to the United States in 1824.
