Margaret Eugenia Broocks b: 22 APR 1860 in San Augustine, Texas. Her parents were John Henry Broocks(d.1901) and Elizabeth Jerome Polk (b.1831 d.1900). Both are buried in San Augustine, county TX.
Margaret E. Broocks grandparents were, John Polk b: 25 OCT 1798 b: North Carolina, and Cynthia Springs Polk b: 25 FEB 1801 in Tennessee, buried in Leon county, TX. John Henry Broocks, a Confederate Army Colonel that was born in Jackson, Tennessee, on October 12, 1829, the son of Elizabeth A. and Travis G. Broocks. In 1837 the family moved to San Augustine, Texas, where Broocks attended Wesleyan College and San Augustine University. After the war Broocks retired to his San Augustine County farm. Although he was repeatedly called upon to run for the state Senate, he declined to do so; he did serve as chairman of the Democratic Congressional District Committee.
